This temple is situated to the north of the Keerai Mandapam and opposite to Deepa Prakaasa Perumal Temple. Brahma perfomed a yaaga in Kaancheepuram. Saraswathy tramsformed herself as Vegavathy River and flowed forcefully to stop the yaaga. Brahma sought the help of Maha Vishnu to stop her. As it was night time Vishnu could not stop the river. So he established a linga, performed pooja and sought Shiva’s help. As requested by Vishnu the Shiva linga lightened as a jyothi and Maha Vishnu absorbed this light and became Vilakkoli Perumaal or Deepa Prakaasar and stopped the river, convinced here and thereby helped Brahma perform the yaaga successfully. The Linga has a round Aavudaiyar. The Baana is tall. The temple is a brick temple.
