When Bala Rama reached Kanchi during his Theertha Yatra he worshipped Ekambaranaadhar. He happened to meet Sage Upamanyu, son of Vyakrapadha. He obtained Deeksha from the Sage and then established a shiva linga here. When Lord Shiva appeared before him he requested him to render all boons and Moksha to those who worshipped this linga Balabhadra Rameswarar. This Linga was worshipped along with Krishna. In the ancient temple there was a Balarama and Krishna idol in the temple. This temple is a small brick temple. The Linga has a round Aavudaiyar.
