KAAYAROHANAESWARAR - KANCHIPURAM

The kaayrohanaeswarar temple is found in pillayarpaalayam near the Thaayar Kulam. The story goes this way. When the period of existence for Vishnu and Brahma was said to come to an end Lord Shivaa (who has no aadhi and andha) carried their bodies and performed dance since Shivaa embraced Vishnu and Brahma and saved them from non existence the name Gaayaarohanaeswarar has been obtained. Lakshmi and Saraswathi worshipping Shiva here to save Vishnu and Brahma respectively. Goddess Lakshmi and Saraswathi showered the leaves of the Bael Tree which is the holy tree of the temple. Mahalakshmi and Guru Bhagwan has worshipped here. There is a special sannidi for Guru. This temple is considered as a Guru parihara stalam. This temple is a Vaipu Sthala. The Linga has a square Aavudaiyar. This temple is a stone temple. There are about 70 leaves on the banyan tree behind Dhakshinamurthy.
