MAAHAALAESWARAR, RAAHULINGA, KEDHULINGA - KANCHPURAM

A snake named Makaalan worshipped Maahaalaeswarar and thereby the name of the Shivaa was called so. This temple is benind the west gopura entrance of Kaamaakshi Amman temple. There are separate sannidhis for all the navagrahas. You can find the Raahulinga and the Kedhulinga in the Raahu Kedhu sannidhis. The snake Makaalan came to Kaanchi as ordered by Kaalahasthinaathar. He stayed here for a certain period of time and performed pooja to Maakaalaeswarar after the specified period was over he returned to Kaalahasthi and attained Mukthi.
