MANIKANDAESWARAR - KANCHIPURAM

This temple is located in Thirukkachchi Nambhi Street. The Shiva linga faces west. Brahma installed this linga. Brahma, Vishnu and the Devaas worshipped this linga to relieve themselves from the sin of making Shivaa consume the poison which came out first while churning the Paarkadal. The Amudham churned from the Paarkadal was consumed here by the Devaas and attained the boon of eternal life. Worshipped by Sani Bagavan. This is a Sani (Saturn) Parihaara Sthalam. Sani Bagvan is found with his Vahana. The Saneeswarar Sannidhi is found to the left of the Moolasthanam in the Artha Mandapam itself. There are 2 idols of Lord Shiva named as Panamaneeswarar and Kanikandaeswarar. These 2 idols must have been brought and placed here from the places near by as many Lingas are lost now. Both these Lingas have round Aavudaiyar. This is a stone temple. The Nandhi of this temple is big. Another Linga found nearby is also placed near the 2 Linga. This is a Guru Parihara Sthala also. The Guru in the Navgraha (Known as Deva guru) and the Aadhi Guru Dhakshinamurthy are facing each other. This is a special feature of this temple. The Aadhi guru Dhakshinamurthy who is seated under the stone banyan tree is surrounded by Saptha Rishis and Nandhis. The Navagraha Guru, Dhakshinamurthy, Dhakshinamurthy, Brahma in the Koshta and the Mulavar Manikandaeswarar are in a straight line. Sthala Viruksha is Banyan Tree.
