PANAAMUDEESWARAR – KAANCHEEPURAM

The Panamudeeswarar temple is located near the Keerai mandapam. Once Garuda started killing all the snakes. The Linga has a square Aavudaiyar. The snakes feared of their destruction by Garuda. They installed a linga and worshipped Lord Shiva to come out of this fear. Shiva wore all the snakes as his ornaments all over his body and protected them. There are 2 Linga Rahu Linga and Kedhu Linga in this temple.The story Garuda Soukkyama arose from this place. There was a belief that these 2 Lingas turn into snakes during night temple and guarded the temple. The temple is a stone temple. The Linga which is found in the Vinayaka Sannidhi is called Kalahastheeswarar.
