This temple is situated in the Eakambaraeswarar Sannidhi street. Sage Upamanyu have worshipped this Shivaa and therefore Thaanthondreeswarar is also known as Upamanyaeswarar. Lord Shivaa was delighted by Upamanyu’s bakthi. Upamanyu was bestowed with the boon that he would stay young throughout his life time. Since Shiva here was established on its own He came to be known as Thanthondreeswarar.
